Any ideas how to improve the game or the site.

Alignment and Factions

Postby WellingtonTheThird » Wed 18. Sep 2013, 00:39

Hello,

Yep. Its me. Your friendly neighborhood Wellington. As the title says I'm interested in knowing the Dev's plans for intergalactic factions and personal character alignment. Could we see these as possible features? I could understand foregoing alignment and adding Good and Evil to the mix could make things a little complex, Good and Evil is subjective, ya-da, ya-da. But, in all the Space 4x games (Which this is quite the roguelike 4x Space game) factions play a large role and help the character feels as if they are a part of something bigger. Will we see this in Prospector?

There are already the megacorps and certain things you can do with/to them (that would be a spoiler, though, so I'll leave it for the wiki), but there's really not a formal faction/reputation system in place.

I actually would like to see more done with those other prospector teams you sometimes run into. It would be cool if you could have some kind of rival captain vying to outdo you in exploration/looting (or just bump you off).

Right, but surely the Megacorporations aren't the only factions that would exist in the universe? What about a Merchants Guild that puts out contracts against notorious pirates? Could we see more done with the Pirate faction? The character interaction in this game is awesome and could be expanded it seems to make it even more awesome.

There is actually a new thing you can do midgame/early endgame in the current version.
There are now 3 endings:
Saved the universe
Almost saved the universe
Retired

The almost one is new and involves the ancient robot ships.
And if you want to get spoiled (Or help testing it)
You can form an alliance between the pirates, FTL capable aliens and corps against the robot ships.
Pirates now have headhunting quests, going after famous pirate hunters. I'd love to expand that too, but can't think of much else than cargo delivering quests to pirate outposts.

Other pirate quests? Some ideas:

Find a good star system for a new secret pirate base.
Find a treasure buried on some planet by a famous past pirate.
Harass/destroy ships belonging to a megacorp the pirates are pissed at.
Attack some rival pirate outpost.
Some guy in a space station's bar owes the pirates money, go get it.
Find and bring in destructive alien artifacts.
A pirate band went to star system X and never returned, find out what happened to them.
A doctor is willing to join the pirates, pick him up at a space station and escort him to the pirate outpost.

I understand that there are the basic corporations, but is there no more guilds that could be added? There could be groups of advanced mercenaries, merchants, scouts, and the list goes on. Do keep in mind though that I have no beat Prospector yet so I am not 100% on all of its content. I'm just taking note of what I notice in my playthroughs and comparing it side by side to some of my favorite 4x space games like Freelancer or X3.

Lol beating prospector doesnt sound fun at all, i find the fun in how im going to kill myself in some really amusing way, like taking on a ship full of endlessly replicating creatures on a dead ship
but yeah i think it would be cool if the RPG part of the game was a little further worked upon, would be nice to join a group and be able to go on a little story line with them or something to that extent, missions don't have that personal feel yet. It would be cool to choose between the darker factions or the good guys, or just choose to kill them all in a 1 man army kinda way, If it doesnt require too much code changing and such for the dev, than im all up for more depth to the game, maybe this mixed with unlockables so you can join a faction and unlock their ships and technology that you cant access in other factions.
Thats my two cents =)
