Arachnid can kill me without being in adjacent square

I got the following message

"The arachnid : Captain injured. Science officer injured. Pilot killed. Gunner killed. 6 damage to spacesuits."

The arachnid wasn't next to me, but I didn't see any sign it was using bow and arrow or guns.

notabug; I think they are supposed to spit, not wield weapons. a couple of other monsters do that too.

the thing wrong with spiders is that they path to mountains and then just sit there instead of walking over them. so enjoy the relative peace and quiet, they'll be even more dangerous when that has been addressed!
