Probes

Postby Jiamil » Mon 28. Apr 2014, 07:17

Hi there, after a while pausing I thought I would give this game another shot, and I don't know if it is only my opinion, but it feels like this game is really going somewhere :)

About my question: I bought two probes at the start thinking, that those could save me maybe a little exploration, it says they can reach 5 parsec and it asks for a direction, so I let out tho of those probes thinking that they travel 5 tiles and give me the data they aquired.
But... they just sit where I left them and do nothing o_o

Edit: And now suddenly I lost contact with both probes... I "think" they work... but could someone please explain how?

Hello, Jiamil.

I checked probes... They do nothing in current version. Looks like a bug for me - so can you be nice captain and report it to(in?) 'bugs' subforum?

Probes do nothing if not left alone

Postby Jiamil » Mon 28. Apr 2014, 12:35

Like I said here:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=160

Probes seem to be unfuntional.

I tested a few other probes and recognized, that they stay where they are as long as you are in the ship navigation screen. When you land on a planet/station you get the message, that the contact to the probe got lost at X:Y. If it happens, that in the direction the probe has been sent out are objects like nebula or stars, they do appear on the ship navigation screen.

I don't know if this also is a bug or intended: Once a probe has been sent and you lost contact it seems to just disappear.

Ah yes...
Did you press 5 to wait to see where the probe is going? 5 doesn't advance time in space travel (An oversight/bug, i will rectify this instant!) and so the probe doesn't move.
If you fly around you can see the probe flying and revealing space.
And yes, when you loose contact the tiny probe is gone

Even if I fly around, the probe stays where it is. It only seems to advance when I'm not at the space screen.

Yup, checked this too (with waiting and flying around). So confirm as bug. [I think, crew have some probes (Or you always can buy more in SW corner) in save I send last time, if you want to check, magellan)

this is wierd.
I just added wait for space.
Now it works too when I hit 5 (It won't work on your releases yet of course)
Do you guys use MKII/III probes. Maybe it's a problem with Item generation.

Ok: Found what caused this. (It's actually a symptom of a bigger problem: While you are in space the universe only gets updated if you launched when your turn counter was a multiple of 10, which I managed to do in my testing, by never landing somewhere)
