Questions

Postby rayres » Wed 7. Jun 2017, 03:18

I have been playing this for awhile now and have some questions:

1. What is the maximum experience points a character can have at one time? In an old post it said 100.

2. I don't want to hire a paramedic because they can't fight well in combat. What happens if I have 2 or more doctors? Scientists?

3. Is there a real point in getting my science skill to a really high level? Does it affect sensors?

4. How often do I have before a person retires? Is it a long time? My pilot at skill lvl. 5 has talked a bit about retiring, and I don't want to have to hire one starting at skill 3 then working his way up. I don't want to use loyalty chips. Do even the elite units I get from the merc. planet consider retirement as well?

5. Is there a limit to the number of cryostations I can have? Do they keep adding to my max. crew?

6. Once I start doing missions for corporations, do they become more dangerous/lucrative? Are these the best way to find pirates to fight? I haven't had too many pirate attacks. Does it have to do with my affiliation with Triax Industries? Or, perhaps I could ask merchants about pirates? However, I am NOT ready to fight pirates just yet, as my ship is pathetic!

7. Can I explore planets which have a corrosive atmosphere using rovers? I noticed that my equipment starts to corrode, and I assume it can be destroyed.

8. I have been playing for 400+ days, and I don't think my captain has aged yet! Is this a bug? What is the maximum age?

9. I am busy saving for my battleship and to arm it. Taking on pirates would provide easier money, I assume?

10. Is there a limited # of passengers wanting transportation to other stations? This paid $11k for one trip!

2.As i remember - no reason to have lower tier officers. And paramedic just 1 from usually 10 or more, it didn't impact too hard.
3.I belive it's collect more biodata, and probably even resources. Plus you have higher roll on trying to fix abaddoned vessels on surface. It's better scan on surface, also sensors affect this. Well you can more easily comunicate with aliens, what lead to faster capture them or gettin alien trinkets from them for sale.
4.I'm not sure you crew can go retire, instead on low morale(low wage, many death, etc) they can leave you when you board on station.
6.I'm not sure, but probably it's will help to find pirates by have ship detection system, or probably to have cargos to let em find you.
7.In earlier versions it's really get destroyed, but in current version as for suits i found they just use more oxygen compsuntion, when damaged, and probably lower armor. My weapons starting corrode too, but never was destroyed, probably it's only affect it's damage and accuracy, or need more time too do so, anyway suits get repaired after returning to ship, probably items too. Don't know about rover, is it will be corroded or no.
8.Not sure age play some role for now, just cosmetic thing.
10. Yeah, so easy money i'm note ) probably need to be nerfed.

That has been changed. I don't know what the max is, but it's well over 100 and I haven't hit it myself.

2. I don't want to hire a paramedic because they can't fight well in combat. What happens if I have 2 or more doctors? Scientists?

I'm not sure if you actually can? I haven't checked. I suspect you can only have one 'Ship's Doctor' but you can get roll bonuses from other people with the right skills.

3. Is there a real point in getting my science skill to a really high level? Does it affect sensors?

Real high science skill is good for identifying Ancient Artifacts. That's a very high difficulty task.

If you pay them a base wage of 11 or more and their morale is good retirement is rare.

5. Is there a limit to the number of cryostations I can have? Do they keep adding to my max. crew?

I have collected literally dozens on cryostations in one game. I never actually noticed what they do. Lol.

6. Once I start doing missions for corporations, do they become more dangerous/lucrative?

Missions for corporations don't change with time. You can get randomly really REALLY high payouts for easy missions. Pirate encounters don't change with them, afaik. Pirate fighting isn't a great way to earn money, IMO. High risk, low reward. Do it for fun and danger. :P

7. Can I explore planets which have a corrosive atmosphere using rovers? I noticed that my equipment starts to corrode, and I assume it can be destroyed.

I haven't checked. You can get most stuff made acid proof at certain stations / planets. A good tip for exploring corrosive atmosphere planets is to just launch and land your spacecraft in various places. Flood lights and other vision range enhancing stuff is great for this.

8. I have been playing for 400+ days, and I don't think my captain has aged yet! Is this a bug? What is the maximum age?

Probably a (tiny) bug.

9. I am busy saving for my battleship and to arm it. Taking on pirates would provide easier money, I assume?

I don't think pirates make for great payouts. I make most of my money from finding ancient artifacts and doing simple patrols. ('Confident skill' is great for company work).

10. Is there a limited # of passengers wanting transportation to other stations? This paid $11k for one trip!

It looks like there is a fixed number of NPCs at the start of the game. Probably around one or two dozen at most? I think once you transport someone they won't ask again, and only a few of them will want to go somewhere.

I think he tolk not about NPC tranportation(they pay a lot less credits btw). He about passengers from "Have a drink" option in casino, not with someone, and than probability of gettin random passenger, not NPC, for a high amount of credits

Ah, I meant one at a time.

You know, I've never actually used the 'have a drink' option. My captains were all teetotal. :P

Hello, rayres.

[+] Spoiler
rayres wrote:1. What is the maximum experience points a character can have at one time? In an old post it said 100.

Personally, I didn't noticed any limit. My max level elite red shirts usually have 400+ unused exp. And also I think, max level based on max hp so max level your crewmembers can have is 11 and hp implants really messes this up.

rayres wrote:2. I don't want to hire a paramedic because they can't fight well in combat. What happens if I have 2 or more doctors? Scientists?

Paramedics reduces time between healing attempts but yes, they are still useless (only for small crews) due their terrible stats.

If you have 2 or more docs, you just have replacement officer in case if old one dies. Still like that better than old system when you could hire bunch of doctors and have immortal awayteam which can survive anything what doesn't kill them instantly.

rayres wrote:4. How often do I have before a person retires? Is it a long time? I think you can keep such person eternally until you visit station or (possibly but doubtful) any place with quickaccess menu. Elite mercs are just high-level redshirts and will consider retirement if they will get low morale. Higher wages usually fixes that problem.

rayres wrote:5. Is there a limit to the number of cryostations I can have? Do they keep adding to my max. crew?

Don't think what game have any limit here. Heck, I even once had 120+ peeps in my crew. Got a lot of bugs cuz of it as well. Dunno, maybe that was fixed in last versions.

rayres wrote: However, I am NOT ready to fight pirates just yet, as my ship is pathetic!

You don't need great ship to fight pirates. Good old 'run and die in mah plasma stream while I flying around this rock' still works surprisingly well.

rayres wrote:7. Can I explore planets which have a corrosive atmosphere using rovers? I noticed that my equipment starts to corrode, and I assume it can be destroyed.

Don't think what corrosive atmosphere affects active rovers at all, only items in awayteam inventory.

rayres wrote:8. I have been playing for 400+ days, and I don't think my captain has aged yet! Is this a bug? What is the maximum age?

More likely oversight.

rayres wrote:9. I am busy saving for my battleship and to arm it. Taking on pirates would provide easier money, I assume?

Space combats ridiculously expensive IMHO but yeah you can get some good money hunting pirates near their planet-bases. You can also get easy money from arena (I suspect it still bugged in current release (R203) but still can net some big cash) and stock market shenanigans.

A new question here, as that thread seems suited for that:

where can i get any tier 4 ship? the 3 stations sell only up to tier 3, and not even all of them (only the troop carrier and the tier 3 combat ship; i was lucky to find a drifting explorer i could take over).
Is there any kind of alien shipyard for that cause? or some hidden human shipyard?

First of all welcome!
There is a planet side shipyard somewhere in the sector. It's the only place you can buy tier 4 ships.
